My mom made spaghetti and meatballs last night, she makes the best out there as well. i also had a bunch of rolls, including sub rolls, left over from the fish sandwiches. the logical thing do, at least from my point of view, is to make a hell of a meatball sub.
somewhat stale sub roll with mozzarella, popped it in the toaster oven for like 5 minutes
cheese is melted and bread is crispy, the meatballs and extra sauce were microwaved while the bread was toasting
two meatballs and a good bit of extra sauce.
i split the meatballs in half and topped it with the sauce.
a little bit of powered parmesean and i call it lunch and a good lunch it was even though most of that sauce ended up on my shirt.

fish sandwich
this was half a request and half a craving. i love a good fried fish sandwich, it's really simple and very satisfying.
i like to keep my sandwich relatively plain. the most important thing is a good homemade tartar sauce.
for vegetable i all put is lettuce to cool it down a bit. i also added a splash of homemade chili vinegar for a little burn.
this is my breaded fish. i used season flour, eggs mixed with hot sauce, and a combo of crushed wavy lays and bread crumbs.
i shallow fry the fish in vegetable oil.
here's a couple of the fish pieces. brown and crispy.
i dress both sides of the roll with tartar sauce.
a good pile of fried cod.
i pour the vinegar on the fish then top with lettuce.
the final product, unassuming but delicious.
that's an action shot right there, looks good don't it?

a couple quick reviews
i can't rely on only me for a perfect sammich. this is the first of my reviews, i plan on doing more when i see fit. i forgot my camera in both of these instances.
first off is a place call chacero, i think, in boston by the commons. the phantom gourmet called this "sandwich perfection" obviously i was intrigued. this is a chilean sandwich shop. this sandwich is on a roll it's got mashed avocado, spicy avocado spread, chicken and or beef, and green beans. it's simple but sounds fantastic, certainly didn't taste fantastic. i'm not saying this is a bad sandwich, not at all. but this is by no means sandwich perfection. the roll was great and spicy avocado spread was an excellent condiment. that being said, the meat was flavorless. very disappointing.
i went to providence to visit some and on the way home i had to stop at one of favorite sandwich shops, east side pocket on thayer street in providence. this is a middle eastern sandwich shop. i had my regular, the chicken kabob pocket with everything on it. i believe everything means ketchup, hotsauce, hummus, lemon sauce, tabouli, lettuce, tomato, pickle, banana peppers, parmesean cheese, and chicken kabob. this is a massive tube of deliciousness. the various sauces and pickles combine to make a sloppy mess like you wouldn't imagine. i give this the ben dufrane seal of approval all the way to bank. the kafka and beef kabob don't quite match up in quality because meat isn't as good as the chicken. i like to get the pita chips and hummus, very good and i take my hummus seriously. also i've tried some of their baklava like desserts and they're good as well. i would recommend this to anyone, even vegetarians; the falafal looks good and it will have that patented slop on it.

hoyeah barbecue in march
i realized it was a beautiful day today around 1pm, not long after i woke up. i have been craving barbecue pork so i went outside, a rare occurrence on a day off, cleaned up the grill and set up my backyard to cook. i was gonna do ribs but the price of three racks of ribs was more than a whole bone in pork loin, so i bought that and cooked the rib half; that way i get my pork and my ribs. i'm pretty sure i've covered this sandwich before, but this time i can get good pictures and it's so delicious that it's worth a second look.
the spice rub is mostly brown sugar, it form a spicy crust around the meat. this is about an hour into cooking
this is the final product as well as sausage. the meat is glistening because i glazed it with bbq sauce about 15 minutes before pulling it off the grill.
i didn't feel like baking so i bought bulkie rolls. the bottom of the roll gets homemade bbq and the top gets peanut butter mustard bbq sauce.
a few slice of the pork roast.
a big ol' pile of cole slaw on top.
this time i can show off the delicious sloppiness of a good barbecue sammich.
look at that, i'm full and still want to eat one of these.
the full spread, i brought home makings for caesar salad from work last night. a few pieces of sausage a pile of potato salad and a sloppygood sandwich, today was a good day.

i took a long nap after work and my mom ended up cooking dinner. i decided to make dessert because my urge to cook hadn't been satisfied. what i ended up with is a four layer chocolate and vanilla torte with lemon buttercream and chocolate ricotta.
